All Witches are Pagans, but, all Pagans are not Witches. As all Witches are not Wiccans which is discussed in "Crone turns Witch".
Confused? Look at it this way - the word "Wicca" is a male gender term while "Wicce" is the female gender.
Being a female, and naturally being the Daughter of the Goddess, to say we are "Wicca" is the same as calling ourselves of the Male Gender.
Doreen Valiente, High Priestess along side Gerald Gardner and author of "Rebirth of Witchcraft" and other books, did not like using the word Wicca for that very reason. It was a word brought in by Gerald Gardner which will be discussed under Gerald Gardner. Remember, there is power in the word.
There are many sects of Witchcraft or Wicca. However, there are two major sects; the difference between the two is that Wiccans actively worship both the Goddess and her Consort, whereas Witches and Dianics, (while they recognize the existence of Her Consort), only actively worship the Goddess. Some traditions claim that to honor either the Goddess or Her Consort more than the other would be an imbalance and an injustice. In the celebrations of the Sabbats, She is honored equally with Her Consort. But, as we have witnessed, some Covens put more emphasis on the Sun God.
There are covens that believe that She would be nothing without the Sun. How can this be a valid thought when we know She created the Sun? She is much more than just the sexual union with Her Consort, just as we, as woman, are much more than just a mate for our husbands. She stands alone in Her own power, just as we stand alone in our own power.
She creates the seasonal changes as She moves to and from the sun. The sun stays still, while She dances the dance of life, for She is life itself. She is the moon with all its mysteries. She is the earth full of bounty.
As Stewart Farrar quoted "to know the God, go to the Goddess".
